My Creative Writing Process for Poetry

I approach writing poetry in an enjoyable way. I like to start with free writing and don’t really care about grammar. I just jot down anything that comes to mind when I think about the theme of the poem. To add a final coat of polish, I add punctuation, fix the sentence’s structure, or use a heartfelt sentence to end the poem. I find interpreting poetry difficult because in a poem, the author conveys their message with a very few word. Because a poem is composed of compression of information, being able to find the right words to express my feelings has been really challenging. If the message of a line is clear, I don’t end it with punctuation. I would like to add more ingredients to spice up my writing. I want to use literacy and poetic devices more effectively so that my words can be stick with the readers and evoke an emotional responses from them.
